Read more about the new Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals here.

In 2012, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) updated its' Hazard Communication Standard. This was put into place to have its' system of labeling and communication chemical hazards comply with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.  As a result, Material Safety Data Sheets were standardized to the GHS and the name was changed to Safety Data Sheets.  The new Safety Data Sheets contain 16 separate classes of information, including:
  • Required Personal Protective Equipment
  • First Aid measures in the event of an accidental exposure
  • Proper disposal of chemicals and empty containers
  • Toxicological and Ecological properties
